A book about Yamaha motorcycles. Beginning by making organs and pianos almost 100 years ago, Yamaha’s first motor cycle – YA1, the Red Dragonfly – did not come out until 1955, and in 1957 they produced less than 16,000 motor cycles. But their bikes flourished and by the mid ‘sixties, with racing and sports successes, production was almost a quarter of a million bikes per year, half of which were export sales. By the mid ‘seventies, their range was from 50cc mopeds to, in 1977, the 1100cc XS Eleven – the largest bike then built by any Japanese manufacturer – and sales had topped one million a year.
