The Mighty Mercedes

$40.00

One might almost say that the Daimler-Benz company invented motor cars, as its founder members Gottlieb Daimler and Karl Benz independently produced internal combustion engined vehicles as early as 1886. It was in 1901 that Count Jellinek, the Austro-Hungarian Consul-General at Nice, took a concession for the sale of Daimler cars and persuaded the company to name their new model after his ten-year-old daughter, Mercedes. This book is an attempt to capture the spirit of Mercedes, from the early cars, through the mighty K, S and SS models, to the smooth status symbols of the late 1970s, with such models as the 450SEL, and the 350 SLC. Michael Frostick’s light touch illuminates most of the 450 photographs and line drawings. There is also a register to the rear of the book which details a list of S, SS, SSK, 500K, 540K and 300 SL models sold in Great Britain giving commission number, engine number, registration numbers and first owner details.
