Vespa and Lambretta Motor Scooters
Vespa and Lambretta remain the two most iconic motor scooter brands, even four decades after the latter's demise. But what made them such a European sensation in the postwar era? And why were they particularly popular in Britain in the 1950s and '60s? Motor scooter expert Stuart Owen explains the rise of Innocenti's Lambretta and Piaggio's Vespa, from the wartime ruins of Italy, through years of plenty as the two manufacturers exploited a ready market for affordable, economic transport, and then their decline into more uncertain times as motor cars trespassed on their success. He also explores the rich history of accessorizing and customizing the scooters, their essential role in the mod movement, and the revival in Vespa's fortunes following the release of the cult film Quadrophenia.

Villiers: Everybody’s Engine
This book sets out to record the amazing achievements of a real British industrial empire, the Wolverhampton-based Villiers Engineering Company; spanning over 100 years of production, from the original cycle business to the final sell-off of the remaining industrial engine arm at the beginning of this century. The first Villiers engine arrived in 1912 and during the great years of the British motorcycle industry many products were Villiers-powered. But it didn't stop there as Villiers also sold its products to manufacturers world-wide. The list of Villiers engine users is truly immense, and as far as motorcycles are concerned its like a who's who, with names including AJS, Ambassador, Cotton, Coventry Eagle, DMW, DOT, even Triumph and Vincent HRD. Rob Carrick and Mick Walker have also included many of the other British two-stroke engines available in the period, such as Alpha, AMC, Anzani, Excelsior, JAP, RCA and Royal Enfield. Villiers Everybody's Engine is a wonderful, informative piece of British industrial history.

Yamaha
A book about Yamaha motorcycles. Beginning by making organs and pianos almost 100 years ago, Yamaha's first motor cycle - YA1, the Red Dragonfly - did not come out until 1955, and in 1957 they produced less than 16,000 motor cycles. But their bikes flourished and by the mid 'sixties, with racing and sports successes, production was almost a quarter of a million bikes per year, half of which were export sales. By the mid 'seventies, their range was from 50cc mopeds to, in 1977, the 1100cc XS Eleven - the largest bike then built by any Japanese manufacturer - and sales had topped one million a year.
