Aston Martin Guide from 1948 (Green Paperback with 3 Aston Logos)
Roger Stowers Softcover pages

Aston Martin Ultimate Portfolio 1948-1968
The second in a series of books on Aston Martin which deals with the period after the second-world war. Although the Company managed to survive the war, Gordon Sutherland didn't have enough funds to put into production the promising "Atom" prototype. David Brown was the next enthusiast to take the name forward, along with Lagonda, which he had also purchased. These were exciting times for Aston Martin which started with the 2-Litre - which evolved into the stylish DB2 - and the famous Italian-designed DB4. Next came the super-car era and the DB5, made famous by Agent 007, James Bond, and this was followed by the DB6, now more of a grand tourer than a sports car.

Aston Martin Ultimate Portfolio 1968-1980
This, the third book in the series on Aston Martin, records the gradual development of the DBS. This title chronicles the various upheavals that occurred in the company between the years 1972, when Sir David Brown sold the company, its near certain death in 1974, and its revival by the Sprague-Minden-Curtis-Flather consortium. This group took the company to new realms with the mighty 400b.h.p. V8 Vantage, the Towns Lagonda V8 and paved the way to the Gauntlet-Livanos era. Stringent emission laws in the USA excluded the V8 until 1978, but the optimistic suggestions of numbers to be built never manifested itself, despite a ready market in the Arab states.

Aston Martin Ultimate Portfolio 1994-2006
Our fifth book on Aston Martin starts with the introduction in 1994 of the DB7. Many people saw it as a sexed up Jaguar, not a true Aston - also it had a pressed steel body instead of a hand-built aluminium one, and "they plan to make lots of them, cannot be an Aston", and so on. However, it was successful and 7,049 were made which was a fantastic achievement considering that since 1920 only some 12,000 cars of all types had been made. The new V12 DB9, made in the company's first purpose-built, up-to-date factory at Gaydon, restored the hand-built image but with added up-to-date engineering features.

At Work: Kenworth Trucks of the 1950s
For Kenworth, the 1950s were some of its most exciting years. A financial windfall started out the decade, with a special truck built for ARAMCO that became a standard at oil sites around the world. In the mid 1950s Kenworth began building trucks in Canada and developed a new design with the cab beside the engine, upping the cargo capacity by 1,000 pounds and offering greatly improved visibility for the driver. In 1956 the company became a subsidiary of the Pacific Car and Foundry Company and under new ownership the 900 model, with a lighter, shorter chassis, was introduced. And, in 1957 the first tilt cab over engine was introduced with easier access to the engine and transmission for servicing. See the huge variety of Kenworths moving goods to Americans at the start of boom times.

At Work: White Trucks of the 1960s
White Motor Company produced American trucks between 1919 and 1980 with its primary manufacturing facilities in Cleveland, Ohio. This book reviews White medium and heavy-duty truck models in roughly the decade of the 1960s, including the 1500, 4000, 5000, 7400, and 9000 series.

Austin Healey 100-6 & 3000
This is the complete story of the Austin Healey 100-6 and 3000's rallying history, told in all its glory by expert motoring historian Graham Robson, as part of the `Rally Giants' series. In nine eventful years - 1957 to 1965 - the six-cylinder-engined Austin Healey evolved into a formidable and increasingly specialised rally car. By any standards, it was the first of the `homologation specials' - a type made progressively stronger, faster, more versatile, and more suitable for the world's toughest International rallies. Though the motorsport foundations had been laid by the Healey Motor Co. Ltd, the work needed to turn these cars into rock-solid 210bhp projectiles was almost all completed by the world-famous `works' BMC Competitions Department at Abingdon. It was because of their vast experience that the `Big Healeys' (as they were affectionately known) became fast and tough, nimble yet durable, so that they were capable of winning major events wherever traction could be assured. Not only did the works Austin Healeys win some of the world's most famous events - including Liege-Sofia-Liege, Spa-Sofia-Liege and the French and Austrian Alpine rallies - but they were also supremely fast on events like the Tulip, and came so close, so often, to winning their home event, the British RAC Rally, which traditionally ended the season. The drivers - Pat Moss, Donald Morley, Rauno Aaltonen, Timo Makinen and Paddy Hopkirk among them - became heroes, while individual cars seemed to take on a character and reputation of their own. This book lists each and every success, each and every notable car, and traces exactly how the machinery developed, and improved, from one season to the next. Over time, the works cars adopted aluminium cylinder heads and body panels, much-modified chassis, transmission and exhaust systems; they also became supremely strong and could withstand a true battering on the world's toughest events. This book relates how the cars were improved by the engineers, how the drivers came to love their heavy and sometimes self-willed steeds, and how the management team got the most out of everything - machinery, personnel, drivers, and regulations. Heavily illustrated and packed with technical detail, this book will make a welcome addition to any motorsport fan's library.
