Racing for Mercedes-Benz: A Dictionary of the 240 Fastest Drivers of the Marque
From the vast number of drivers who have competed for Mercedes-Benz and its ancestors in the past 115 years, legends such as Hermann Lang, Karl Kling, Juan Manuel Fangio and Michael Schumacher stand out. However, history should not forget all those other works drivers and privateers whose exploits added to the fame of the company at the wheel of formula, sports racing and touring cars; drivers whose names have often unjustly faded from view. Famous or obscure, the 240 fastest of these drivers are presented in this volume, which has been compiled in close co-operation with Mercedes-Benz Classic. This book is the who's who of the four-wheel sport.

Return to Glory!: The Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Racing Car
1952 was one of the most important years in Mercedes-Benz racing history; after a 13-year absence, it returned to motor sport competition with an automobile that rewrote the history of modern sports car racing. The 300 SL's debut was the culmination of a long, difficult road back to racing for Mercedes-Benz. Return to Glory! vividly depicts the 300 SL's performance in the five races in which it competed in 1952, and tells the story of how it became the most successful competition sports car of that year. Through dramatic photographs and equally stirring text, one of the greatest years of sports car racing is brought to life--a year filled with automobiles finished in national racing colors, prepared by great factory teams, driven by men who were national sporting idols, and raced under gruelling conditions unique to the age. From its Mille Miglia debut, through the Nürburgring, the Le Mans 24 Hours, to its greatest race - the Carrera Panamericana, the 300 SL's career from conception to retirement is presented, culminating with a detailed photographic essay illustrating restoration of the oldest 300 SL in existence.

The Incredible Blitzen Benz: Mighty Machines from Mannheim Shattered Speed Records and Inspired Heroic Legends
Titanic motorcars that blazed a trail of speed before and after the Great War, the Blitzen Benzes were the fastest man-carrying machines of their era. Officially certified as the fastest cars in the world from 1909 to 1919, the 200-horsepower Benzes were winners in races and hillclimbs throughout Europe and America. For the first time the storied feats of the six Type RE Benzes and their colorful owners and drivers are brought vividly to life in this lavishly illustrated book. One of the most evocative names ever bestowed on an automobile, "Blitzen Benz" came to express the ultimate in power and speed. The car itself, with its sharp-tailed body, aggressively beaked radiator and colossal exhaust pipes, still stands as an unrivaled icon of velocity on land. Karl Ludvigsen weaves an engrossing saga of the men and machines of the era covering: founder Karl Benz and why he was not keen on racing; a talented Belgian who designed a great German engine; how a choleric and driven French racer inspired the first 200 PS Benz; stunning new world records set in 1909 and 1910; marrying the Benz with American racing hero Barney Oldfield; and, why the four-passenger model was fastest of all the Benzes at Brooklands; rare period images bring the Blitzen's exploits to life; shattering records with "Wild Bob" Burman; and, record-breaking at Brooklands with a stove-pipe exhaust. In his work, Ludvigsen clarifies for the first time the tangled careers of these great cars. He concludes his narrative with the exciting revival of several of the Type RE Benzes, alive again to give a hint of the immortal achievements that made these the most daunting and respected racing cars of their time.

The Magnificent Mercedes
Graham Robson ISBN-10: 0688006531 Hardcover 224 pages Out of Print. Used. Very good condition for age.

The Mighty Mercedes
One might almost say that the Daimler-Benz company invented motor cars, as its founder members Gottlieb Daimler and Karl Benz independently produced internal combustion engined vehicles as early as 1886. It was in 1901 that Count Jellinek, the Austro-Hungarian Consul-General at Nice, took a concession for the sale of Daimler cars and persuaded the company to name their new model after his ten-year-old daughter, Mercedes. This book is an attempt to capture the spirit of Mercedes, from the early cars, through the mighty K, S and SS models, to the smooth status symbols of the late 1970s, with such models as the 450SEL, and the 350 SLC. Michael Frosticks light touch illuminates most of the 450 photographs and line drawings. There is also a register to the rear of the book which details a list of S, SS, SSK, 500K, 540K and 300 SL models sold in Great Britain giving commission number, engine number, registration numbers and first owner details.
