WE REMEMBER: Honouring Our Canadian Armed Forces (Volume 3)

posted in: Books, Military | 0

In honour of the brave men and women that serve and have served in the Canadian Armed Forces, and to honour the many who have given the ultimate sacrifice; we will be promoting books each day this week that shed light on what it is like to serve.

The Canadian Armed Forces would not be the same if it weren’t for the fathers, mothers, and wives who stay behind and support our troops. Today we want to honour the men and women that are sometimes forgotten by history, but sacrifice all the same, for the freedoms we have.

In the Midst of Alarms: The Untold Story of Women and the War of 1812

In the Midst of Alarms tells the story of how the War of 1812 affected women at all levels of society, from high society in Washington and Quebec to the women who followed their husbands to the front lines. The author brings to life the untold stories of wives, daughters, heroines and harridans, as revealed in memoirs, diaries and letters of the time. The book is well illustrated with portraits, cartoons of social comment and styles of dress of the time.

Bomb Girls: Trading Aprons for Ammo

What was it like to work in a Canadian Second World War munitions factory? What were working conditions like? Did anyone die?

Bomb Girls delivers a dramatic, personal, and detailed account of the men and women who risked their lives daily, while handling high explosives in a dedicated effort to help win the war women working in Canada’s largest fuse-filling munitions factory.

Halifax at War: Searchlights, Squadrons and Submarines 1939-1945
